Dambulla Cave Temple, also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla, is a cultural and religious treasure nestled in the central part of Sri Lanka. Also a UNESCO world heritage site. Carved into a massive granite outcrop, the temple complex comprises a series of five caves adorned with intricate and vibrant religious art. These caves house over 153 Buddha statues, three statues of Sri Lankan kings, four statues of gods and goddesses, a 15 metre long reclining Buddha and vividly coloured frescoes on the walls and ceiling, making this the largest antique painted surface in the world. The cave complex isd date back to the 1st century BCE and has served as a sacred pilgrimage site for centuries.
